Private Jonathan M. Lewis, Company K, 4th Reserves. Listed as simply "He was discharged for disability on 12/16/1862." There is no mention in his record of being wounded, nor captured, etc.

In a letter written by an unknown writer from Company K, of the 4th Regiment, it states:

" The following is a list of the killed, wounded, and missing in Co. K, 4th Regiment, Pa. R.V.C., June 27, 1862: Killed – Private Jonathan M. Lewis, of Lionville, shot through the body – left on the field."1

However, it wasn't until nearly a month later when it was discovered that Private Lewis was still amongst the living.

"On August 6th a prisoner exchange took place; among the men returning to the Enton Guards was Jonathan M. Lewis, reported killed. Lewis was among those supposed to be killed, and his appearance among us was like one from among the dead. While on the retreat on the 27 of June, his gun was struck by a flying missile, and broken to pieces, the stock bruised his shoulder and knocked him senseless to the ground, where he lay until captured by the enemy."2

The severity of Private Lewis's wound is not exactly known. However, it must have been at least somewhat significant since it must have played a roll in his "discharge for disability."

It should be noted that Private Jonathan M. Lewis be listed on every muster roll as "Wounded and Captured" on June 27th, 1862, during the Seven Days Campaign. He was officially exchanged on August 6th of the same year.
